group of students in costume on stage

On Friday, March 31, 2023, the Emerald Hill Elementary (EHE) Drama Club presented Alice in Wonderland & Other Unusual Tales. The EHE Drama Club, funded by the ESSER III Set Asides Before and After School Grant, met from October 2022 to March 2023.  The club included 36 talented 4th and 5th grade students. The club, in its inaugural year, was created and run by EHE staff members Emily Bragg, Jessica Allison, Nikki Alther, and Deborah Gaulden. Students learned the basics of theatre arts, including: acting skills, breathing and projection on stage, costume design, improvisation, stage management, backstage and technical skills, set design, prop making, and promotion/advertising. Many drama students even volunteered their time to a Saturday Set Day, during which students designed and created set pieces and props for their upcoming performance. In addition, 10 drama students also participated in a series of playwriting workshops, during which they learned the basics of playwriting and character creation. As a result, 8 of these students went on to cast and direct other students in their own student-written skits. EHE Drama Club did an amazing job in their very first production, and the EHE community is very proud of their accomplishments and talents.
