Happy Sunday Emerald Hill Eagles! This is Dr. Gelbert.

Since we are already into our winter weather, and we’ve already had a 2-hour delay day, I wanted to remind our families that we do not serve breakfast on 2-hour delay days. Thank you in advance for helping your children plan ahead on those days should we have any more 2-hour delay days this school year.

This coming week, we will be having our next fire drill. Please take a moment to review fire safety with your children.

Thank you to all of our families that have already donated towards the Culpeper Christmas Basket Food Drive. We’ve already raised 3,964 items! Due to the snow day on Friday, we will be collecting items through tomorrow! Our goal is 5,000 items. Thank you for helping us make the holidays special for our neighbors in need!

Candy Gram Fliers were sent home last week. If your child is interested in purchasing Candy Grams, money and tags are due by this Friday, December 12th. Please have your child complete the tags that were sent home and payment can be submitted at School Cash Online.

We are excited to kick off our EHE Holiday Light Tour tomorrow! Attached is the Light Tour flyer, which includes a QR code linking to a PDF of the Holiday Light Tour map, a Google Map of all the stops, and the voting form. We want to thank all the families who volunteered to participate and share their beautifully decorated homes. Families are invited to enjoy the tour any evening from tomorrow, December 8th, through Wednesday, December 17th, and don’t forget to vote for your top three favorite houses. The top three houses will be announced on Thursday, December 18th! We can’t wait to see which homes are your favorites!

Join us on December 17th from 6-8 pm for our Holiday Market! Join us for a magical evening of holiday photos, crafts, and family shopping. Families will have the opportunity to purchase gifts from local vendors and our student holiday shop, but all event activities in the cafeteria (crafts, treats, and holiday photos) will be free for students. We look forward to celebrating this festive evening with you!

Looking ahead, our Winter Break is Friday, December 19th through Monday, January 5th. Both the school and the main office will be closed during the break. We will look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, January 6th.

Tonight at 5pm, Emerald Hill will be walking in the Culpeper Christmas parade. If your family attends the parade, please look for us!

Tomorrow is a day 3 in our resource rotation.

Have a great rest of your weekend and remember to learn everyday!

Emerald Hill families, we’re at 3,900 donations for the Culpeper Community Christmas Basket food drive, and we’re pushing to reach 5,000 by tomorrow! Last year we brought in nearly 2,000 items on the final day, so we know this community can do it.

How you can help:
Bring in any last-minute food items, or send cash/check donations (made out to Culpeper Community Christmas Basket). Every dollar counts as one item.

Class incentives for tomorrow:
• Every item earns a raffle ticket for a candy cane treat.
• The top-donating class in each grade wins an ice cream party.
• The three classes that bring in the most items tomorrow earn a special STEM recess session with Mr. Foster.

Thank you for helping us support families in our community. Let’s finish strong!

🚀 Engineering in Action in 3rd Grade! 🛠️🌊

Mr. Tilbe’s third graders have been learning all about simple machines. Today they used their knowledge to build contraptions that could move a payload safely into a boat.

Using cardboard, cups, yarn, ramps, tape, and LOTS of teamwork, our young engineers sketched, built, tested, redesigned, and celebrated every success along the way. Their creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration muscles got a real workout! 💚🦅✨

📢 Important Update for Virginia SNAP Recipients

Virginia will temporarily issue state-funded food assistance on a weekly basis to households’ existing EBT cards while federal SNAP benefits are delayed.

These state funds, called the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) program, will:
✅ Use the same EBT cards and beneficiaries as SNAP
✅ Deliver about ¼ of monthly benefits each week
✅ Begin issuing benefits on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in November

For questions or the latest updates, visit DSS.Virginia.gov
or contact your local Department of Social Services office.

Graphic titled “Virginia Acts to Protect SNAP Recipients.” It announces that Governor Glenn Youngkin has launched the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) program to provide state-funded food assistance amid a federal shutdown. The program uses the same EBT cards and beneficiaries as SNAP, is funded by Virginia’s budget surplus, and delivers about one-quarter of monthly benefits each week—$37.5 million weekly statewide. Benefits are issued Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in November. The chart lists new VENA payment dates for SNAP groups: Group 1 – Monday, November 3; Group 2 – Wednesday, November 5; Group 3 – Friday, November 7. The graphic also notes that updates and FAQs are available at DSS.Virginia.gov and reminds recipients to keep their EBT cards secure using the ConnectEBT app.
