During the second week of March, Sketch Club was introduced to the work of Dutch sketchbook artist Koosje Koene. The students watched a tour of her accordion-style sketchbook filled with drawings and stories about her shoes! They had a great discussion about how all artwork goes through a weird stage where it might look really bad , and the voice in your head tells you it's awful! But the lesson is to just keep drawing and give your artwork a chance to work itself out. Then they took off their shoes and got to drawing!

Our stallions had the amazing opportunity to be visited by two members of the Charlottesville Symphony! 4th and 5th grade students were able to watch demonstrations by a principal viola player and a principal clarinet player from the symphony. They enjoyed hearing songs from Star Wars, Harry Potter, the Pink Panther, and more! This was made possible by The Francis J. Sheridan Fund, The Richard M. and Tessa G. Ader Fund for Music Education, and The Charlottesville Symphony Society.

The Clovers vs Leprechauns fundraiser was a huge success raising over $1,000 for the school. The competition was so much fun with Mr. Koch’s class winning. His students enjoyed a glow party at school.

Congratulations to Carson from Mrs. Zajkowski's class. He memorized 86 digits of pi and got to "pie" Mrs. Zajkowski!

Silly McGilly tricked Mrs. S. Nicholson’s class with shenanigans during math! ☘️He had her students find coins he had hidden all over the room and solve the subtraction problems hidden on the coins! They earned treats and wore their mustaches to celebrate solving all the problems!

During the first week of March, Sketch Club learned and practiced different shading techniques (blending, hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling). Then they put their skills to work by drawing jumbo Legos and adding shading.

Our older students are so lucky to have an amazing opportunity to be part of Sports Club each year! Thank you to Mrs. Houck and Mr. Harris for all your hard work with this club! Here are our Tuesday and Thursday Sports Club kiddos! Keep staying active, stallions!

Our school counselor, Mrs. Gibson, is working with small groups of students. Small group counseling is a unique educational experience that allows students to work with their peers to explore ideas, feelings, and behaviors. Small group counseling teaches skills and strategies that enhance a student’s ability to succeed academically and socially.
5th grade students are preparing for middle school by learning what type of learner they are so that they can maximize their ability to retain information and achieve better learning outcomes.
1st and 3rd grades are learning the aspects of healthy friendships, expanding social circles, and building their conflict resolution skills.

Mrs. Cruz's class had an awesome spirit week celebrating all things READING! Everyone got to share a favorite digital or printed book with a friend. Some even used screen sharing tools and the document camera to share with the entire class! Everyone got a chance to experience being like a teacher on Friday, and Mrs. Cruz even had a twin! Reading makes everything better!
